Hey, some of us actually do race our bikes!

Kevin Vanderlinden finished 2nd in the 1-lap, 40+ age group road race at the Iowa Games on July 27th. This race also served as a qualifying event for the 2015 National Senior Games to be held in Minneapolis. Kevin finished 1st among the 50-59 age group riders (the top 3 qualify) so his spot is secure if he wants to go. Kevin won the Sport class, 50-59 age group MTB race, also at the Iowa Games, on August 30th. On September 7th he finished 2nd in the age 40+ B class in the Ridgeline Rush MTB race at Brandon, South Dakota.

June 7th-8th was the Nebraska Omnium Weekend, the 3rd event in the Midwest Flyover Series. On Saturday Eric Tudor finished 11th in the morning Cat. 3 time trial and 12th in the afternoon criterium. Despite his Shimano Di2 deciding not to cooperate by only sporadically allowing him to shift after the first lap of the 60-mile road race, he still managed to hang in and finish 11th, mostly confined to his 53x14. Bob Greigg joined him in the road race and finished 22nd, still a bit off form after a lingering illness. Kevin Vanderlinden finished a fine 4th out of 25 finishers in the Cat. 5 road race.

Recent Results- Late May

May 21st was the first of the 4-race criterium series sponsored by Spoke-n-Sport of Sioux Falls at Yankton Trails Park. The start/finish line was on the north side of the course and the west section thru the eastern parking lot also returned for this race. After a couple slow opening laps, the race sped up to race pace but largely stayed together. At about halfway, a group of 5 went up the road, a group that included Powerade rider Eric Tudor and Jeff Kluck (Queen City). Jeff and Peter Oien (CPC) soon separated themselves to battle for the win with Peter eventually taking 1st and Jeff 2nd. The other escapees came back with about 3 laps remaining setting the stage for a field sprint for 3rd. Dustin Bakker of CPC, following his lead-out men, clipped a pedal before the final corner and went down. The group was able to split around him but it caused some gaps to open. Lead-out man, Ryan Waterfall (CPC), outlasted the rest for 3rd. Bob Greigg was 9th, Eric 11th and Ben Cork was 15th.

'A' and 'B' Race Recaps

“That was epic!”

Epic is a word that is often overused or misused in this day and age. But the use of that word today at the Twin Bing Classic Road Race was entirely appropriate. We in northwest Iowa may lack the cobblestones and frites of Belgium but we have our own punchy climbs and Twin Bing candies. However, any grizzled Belgian road racer would’ve felt right at home with the brutal weather presented to the brave few who came to compete at Climbing Hill on Sunday.

2013: The Year in Review

Written by: Admin

Mr. Admin is sorry for the lateness in posting last year's review but it's been a cold winter and he's been hibernating. Or something. And oh yeah, the site had been broken for a few months. He eventually figured out how to unbreak it but the appearance is kind of plain for the time being. Anyway...
