2014 Cyclo-Cross Season Summary

The few Powerade racers that compete in cyclo-cross posted some pretty fine results from September to January.

Brent Linn and Jon Nelson started their season off right with some excellent results at the Dirty Wooden Shoe races September 13-14th in Knoxville, IA. Brent finished 3rd in both 55+ age group races. Jon won the 45+ race on Saturday and finished 11th in the 1,2,3 race on Sunday.

Mr. Admin is sorry for the lateness in posting last year's review but it's been a cold winter and he's been hibernating. Or something. And oh yeah, the site had been broken for a few months. He eventually figured out how to unbreak it but the appearance is kind of plain for the time being. Anyway...

NE State CX Championship Results

Lincoln and Omaha were the sites of state championship cyclo-cross races November 9th-10th.

On Saturday at Pioneers Park, Brent Linn finished 8th in the Masters' 40+ race. Jon Nelson came in 11th in the 1/2/3 race.

Spooky Cross Results

Brent Linn and Jon Nelson competed in the Spooky Cross weekend races in Altoona, Iowa November 2nd-3rd.

Brent finished 3rd on Saturday and came in 4th on Sunday in the 55+ age group races.

Mark Your Calendars: Frosty Cross

Sioux City Velo sponsor Bike Central of LeMars is once again promoting the popular Frosty Cross cyclo-cross race the weekend of November 30th- December 1st.

The USA Cycling sanctioned event has expanded for 2013 offering 6 races including Masters 40+ and Womens Open fields. Bigger payouts too.

Nelson & Linn at Joules Cross

Jon Nelson and Brent Linn competed at Joules Cross near Lawrence, Kansas October 19th-20th.

On Saturday, Jon raced the 1/2/3 event where he placed 10th. Brent finished 10th in the Masters 50+ race.

CX Results: Omaha Weekend and Sioux Falls

Despite the embarrassing revelation of arriving at Swanson Park in Bellevue, NE on Saturday without his cycling shoes, Jon Nelson would go on to win the 40+ Open race by a comfortable margin with borrowed shoes and pedals. In that same race Bob Greigg finished 7th. Brent Linn did not finish due to a rolled-off tire.

4 Riders Join SC Velo

Sioux City Velo is pleased to announce we've added some new riders to our roster:

Brent Linn has recently returned to our Powerade/IF racing team. A well-known racer in the Tri-state area over the past 20 years, Brent has an extensive racing background on the road, mountain bike and cyclocross circuits. A native of Laurel, Nebraska, Brent is vice president of business banking at First National Bank. He lives in Sioux City with his wife, Lillian.

Ben Cork

Powerade-IF racer Ben Cork is a freshman this fall at Baylor University in Waco, Texas and has quickly made an impact racing for the Bears mountain bike team.

Competing in the Collegiate 'C' category, Ben won the Short Track race and finished 2nd in the Cross Country race at the Camp Eagle Classic on August 31st.

Chesterman at MB Race

Jay Chesterman and pal Kent McNeil traveled to France in early July to participate in what is billed as the hardest mountain bike race in Europe. Jay came away from the race convinced that billing is indeed deserved. He later described the event as brutal and the hardest thing he has ever done.

McCullough Wins S-n-S Crit #3

Cody McCullough won the 3rd race of the Spoke-n-Sport bike shop criterium series on July 24th.

This race was made a bit more technical after a new section with a quick up-and-over transition was added to the course.

Greigg 3rd, Cork 5th at iGran Fondo

July 20th was the date for the 2nd iGran Fondo. This year's nearly 100-mile ride/race is promoted by the City of Sioux City as an annual kick-off event to precede Ragbrai. Each year's ride will start in Sioux City and end in the Iowa tour's starting town so the route will change annually.

Nelson Wins S-n-S Crit #2

Jon Nelson won the Spoke-n-Sport series criterium #2 on July 10th.

After early breakaway attempts came back and a mid-race break in a pairing of SC Velo teammates Cody McCullough and Jon Nelson ended due to a crash (Jon's), the final winning move of Cody, Jon and Ken Pike (CPC) was established. Cody led out Jon for the win with Pike coming in 2nd and Cody, 3rd.

5/26- Jay Chesterman and Bill Feiges raced mtbs at St. Joseph, MO at the Roubaix Roundup. Jay was 2nd in the Cat 1, 40-49 group while Bill was 1st in the Cat 2, 50+ race.

New Team Member

SC Velo is pleased to announce that Ben Cork has recently joined our Powerade/IF racing team. In his first time racing for us on the road, Ben finished 2nd in the 'B' race at the Spoke-n-Sport Criterium at Yankton Trails Park in Sioux Falls on June 29th.

Spoke-n-Sport Crit Series

The Spoke-n-Sport bike shop in Sioux Falls has just announced the schedule for their series of criterium races at Yankton Trails Park. Half the course has a new surface. The first race is June 29th, mid-morning. The rest of the races will be on Wednesday evenings. These are 'A' and 'B' category races. Pre-registration is the only way to sign up.
