6/22 7:55am. The course was inspected yesterday evening. Heavy rains from Monday left the ditches full and standing water in the fields all along the road. More rain is forecast for today making it probable some low areas on the road will be submerged.

11 riders came out to contest the first of our 4-race Wednesday evening 20k time trial series on May 18th. Race time temperature was around 68 degrees with a diminishing southeast wind from 10 mph under a cloudy sky. Despite missing his start time by 40 seconds, Buddy Houts still came in 2nd in the 4/5 race. Greg Gleason and Jay Chesterman stopped the clock in a rare dead heat in the Eddy Merckx division.

Our first time trial series race is tomorrow evening, May 18th (info to the right). Cody McCullough and Bill Feiges have finely tuned the course distance using GPS to measure it to exactly 20 kilometers.

Jay Chesterman and Rob Livermore competed in the 2nd event of the 2011 Nebraska Psycowpath MTB series on May 7th at Platte River State Park near South Bend, NE. Jay finished 9th in the Category 1 Open race.

The Yankton River Rat Bike Race is part of a big event that includes a marathon, a half marathon, and 5K running events. It may be Siouxland's best kept secret as far as mountain bike races go. They bill it as a "cyclocross" race, but make no bones about it- it's a mountain bike race.

Our friends at the Central Plains Cycling Club of Sioux Falls have revived their Thursday evening criterium race series for 2011. The races will be held at the Sioux Empire Fairgrounds. The 'B' race starts at 6 PM followed by the 'A' race at 6:40 PM. Race dates are May 12th, June 16th, July 14th and a makeup date TBD for the April 21st race that was canceled due to weather.
