Lincoln CX Weekend

Written by: Admin

The Lincoln Cyclocross Weekend (November 20-21) closed out the 2010 season for Powerade/IF racers. Both days were at Pioneer's Park on the western edge of Lincoln.

The bottom of the course was flat and bumpy as usual but it's the Hooligan's Hill area that raises the bar to a higher realm of pain. Besides the run-up, the entire hillside is challenging. You're going up, down and around on steep, strength-sapping terrain pockmarked with wheel grabbing, mini bomb craters. Then there's trying to choose the perfect line through the potting soil to navigate two clumps of trees that will hang you up if you don't. It was quite a bit colder than forecast too with temps in the low 30's on Saturday.

Saturday
Mark Lavin was outsprinted at the line to finish 2nd in the 3/4 race. Brent Linn was 22nd and Bob Greigg DNF.

Jeff Kluck battled Steve Tilford and his Kansas commrades plus Mark Savery and Euro roadie Aaron Poole to finish 6th in the Cat 1,2,3 race.

Sunday
Only Mark and Jeff stayed to compete the second day which was the Nebraska championship race. Mark again had another podium finish by coming in 3rd in the 3/4 race.

With the Kansas crew gone, Jeff dueled with Mark Savery and his homeboys to come away with 2nd place in the 1/2's race. Jeff was the overall winner of the Nebraska CX Series.

Maxon 1st, Kluck 2nd at Flatwater CX

Cyclocross racing in Nebraska continued with the Flatwater Grand Prix in Lincoln on Sunday, October 24th.

Located in urban Van Dorn Park, the rolling 1.5-mile circuit served up tight turns, fast downhills and enough tarmac to wind up for a sprint finish. Since early September, this venue has served as the home for the weekly Flatwater Cycling CX Training Series.

Kluck, Schuman Tops At Skyview CX

Written by: Admin

Jeff Kluck and Zach Schuman continued their winning ways at the Skyview Cyclocross Classic on October 23rd in Norfolk, Nebraska.

In stark contrast to the non-technical course from 2009, the difficulty was ratcheted way up by Jon Downey and the EVCC crew with the 2010 edition. Featuring a "twirl", numerous twisty-turns, zig-zags, power climbs and bumpy, rolling terrain with the customary sand and two barrier sections- this highly technical course presented very few areas to recover. Riders with big lungs and mad skills would rule.

The expected rain didn't show up as the Masters race kicked off the day under cloudy skies at a humid 60 degrees. Unattached rider Jim Winklepleck won unchallenged. Bob Greigg came in 9th and Brent Linn finished 10th.

Zach Schuman seized the early lead and rode away from the 25 rider Cat 4 field to another impressive victory. The PIF crew dominated this race as Mark Lavin and Matt Casey finished 3rd and 4th, respectively.

Jim Winklepleck took another top step in the Cat 3 race. Matt Maxon would take 3rd place for our team.

In the feature race of the day, Jeff Kluck eventually reeled in early leader Jesse Peterson (Monkey Wrench) and held on to win the 1/2/3 race building onto his string of top results this year. Ulises Salas came in 7th.
